Mothertongue Tales

In January 2018, I worked with children from Kings Heath Primary School to direct a version of The Hungry Woodcutter – one of five tales that formed part of Mothertongue Tales…

Follow three young travellers fleeing persecution as they journey across the globe collecting stories of selfish tortoises, singing mermaids, generous goats and hungry woodcutters. This debut production involves 5 local schools working with 5 professional directors in a combined cast of over 100 young performers.

Following their award-nominated Mothertongue Tales community story sharing project, Royal & Derngate’s Arts Leaders aged 13-24 years, with support from Northamptonshire Community Foundation and Sir Thomas White Charity, have commissioned writer Antonia Underwood to adapt their storybook into a play that celebrates the culturally diverse communities within Northampton.
